Paper Towns

Green, John. 2008. PAPER TOWNS. New York: Dutton. ISBN 9780525478188 [Suggested Grade Levels 9-12]

REVIEW
Imagine Quentin’s surprise when his crush-from-afar, the lovely, enigmatic, and adventurous Margo Roth Spiegleman, steps into his bedroom through a window. Dressed as a ninja, she commands him to follow her as she performs acts of revenge on classmates. Of course, her wish is Quentin’s command and he follows her for a well-planned night of pranks. Quentin eagerly anticipates seeing her the next day at school, but soon discovers she has disappeared and no one knows where or why. He soon discovers that she has left clues for him, clues that not only allow him to get to know her better but also to discover who she really is. In one of the funniest road trips in young adult literature, Quentin and his buddies skip graduation and head north in his graduation present—a Ford minivan—to find the elusive Margo.

John Green is renowned for his quirky characters, his honesty, his ability to make even unanswered questions seem answerable. PAPER TOWNS adds one more exceptional volume to Green’s superb body of work.

CONNECTIONS
PAPER TOWNS is a first-pick for all high school libraries for book talks, reader’s theater, and book discussion groups. Teens can discuss the fun and/or consequences of pranks, the challenges of boy-girl friendships, and the allure of the road trip.
