Orangutans are Ticklish

Davis, Jill. 2010. ORANGUTANS ARE TICKLISH. Ill. by Steve Grubman. New York: Schwartz & Wade. ISBN 9780375858864 [Suggested Grade Levels K-4]

REVIEW
Get up close and personal with a variety of wild animals in this photo-filled book by photographer Steve Grubman. Interesting facts about each animal form the chatty, informative text, and a colored inset sidebar presents a personal bit of information about the animal’s behavior at the photo shoot.

The large photographs fill the page and smaller shots of the animal are interspersed among the text. Each photo presents a close-up image of the animal and the white background is designed to highlight the animal featured on each spread. Backmatter holds more fun facts on each animal, along with another photograph.

This introduction to wild animals and the fun facts it holds make this book appealing to children of a variety of ages. It invites children to inspect the pages and marvel at the details of each animal’s photograph.

CONNECTIONS
This book would be a good way to introduce young children to animals especially before a zoo trip or an animal unit. Invite them to look up other animals not included in this book and find photos and fun facts about them.
