Piper Reed: Navy Brat
Holt, Kimberly Willis. 2007. PIPER REED: NAVY BRAT. Ill. by Christine Davenier. New York: Henry Holt. ISBN 0805081976 [Suggested Grade Levels 4-8]
REVIEW
Nine-year-old Piper Reed is moving again. As the middle daughter of a Navy Chief, Piper has lived in Texas, Mississippi, California, and is about to venture out to Pensacola, Florida. Luckily, Piper can make anything into an adventure, from a multi-day road trip with the family to living in a new city and making new friends. Of course, some aspects make the journey more difficult, like her sometimes annoying older and younger sisters, having to leave the Gypsy Club and her tree house behind, and saying good-bye to her dad who will be on a boat for six months. But through it all, Piper’s fresh voice and humorous view of the world around her will keep readers entertained no matter where the Navy takes her.
